Army Ranger took his life after eight deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan because he thought 'there was no way that any God would forgive him'

An Army Ranger took his life rather than return to Iraq or Afghanistan for a ninth time because he thought 'there was no way that any God would forgive him', his widow has revealed. Staff Sergeant Jared Hagemann's body was found at the Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, a few weeks ago after he shot himself in the head.  His widow, Ashley Hagemann, has said that his fellow Army Rangers would not do anything to help him before he took his life.

'It was just horrible and he would just cry,' said Ashley Hagemann. She said her husband had tried to come to terms with what he had seen and done on his eight deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.  But he told her before his death, 'There's no way that any God forgive him, that he was going to hell,' she said.

'He couldn't live with that any more. He just wanted to know what it felt like to be normal again,' she told local station KOMO.  Mr Hagemann had been called up to return to Afghanistan this month, but instead on June 28, he killed himself at the base.

Grieving widow: Ashley Hagemann, has said that his fellow Army Rangers would not do anything to help him before he took his life  Mrs Hagemann said the Rangers never took his pleas for help seriously.  'There's no way that they should not have been able to pick up on it,' she said.  A spokesman for the base said the nature of the death is still undetermined.
